The Region

Divided between green and blue, the region offers the pleasures of the countryside and the ocean.

The rural areas alternate forests (cork oaks, pines) with cultivated fields, old rice fields, which benefit from countless small rivers that descend slowly towards the sea. Cultivated fruits and vegetables are found in the region’s daily morning markets.

The relatively soft terrain allows for bicycle, horse and foot walks and is a popular stopover for pilgrims traveling to Compostela and cyclists who follow the coast from Setúbal to Sagres.

The Lagoa and its beaches allow windsurfing, kitesurfing, paddle surfing, pedal boating, kayaking. Depending on the season, the bird sanctuary is home to a wide variety of birds. Guided tours are organized regularly.

Santiago do Cacém, the old Moorish citadel, the Roman ruins of Miróbriga, the Badoka Safari park and the nearby town of Sines are interesting and pleasant visit destinations.
